“As a child , Gabriel Bittencourt , the Gabu , grew up in one of the most beautiful regions of Brazil. His parents met in Trancoso, Bahia, in the 1970s, and it was there that he enjoyed an extraordinary childhood.

Less than 40 km away, Lara Araujo had the similar privilege of enjoyed your childhood in Arraial d’Ajuda.

The union of the couple was the starting point for the realization of many dreams, among them the house in the lift, next to the Quadrado and the Nativo’s beach.  A home that synthesize architecture of Trancoso region, as this residence, which celebrates local work. So this is how the Casa Ingá was born.

Taking advantage of a land that was part of the property of Gabu’s mother, the duo started the planning of a building of simple lines, wooden roof with hipped and suspended from the ground to escape the humidity. “We had the idea of a house that unite comfort and the place simplicity. We seek materials traditionally used in the addresses of biribandos the 80 [ nickname given to hippies and artists who rediscovered Trancoso from the 1970s ]. Lots of wood and burnt cement” says Lara.

The project was designed by Beatriz Regis Bittencourt, aunt of Gabu, and the monitoring of the work of the finishes and decoration was done by Cris Nogueira architect friend of the couple.
The result is a large and ventilated house with few partitions and replacing walls by movable panels, allowing the closing of rooms when necessary. Much of the wood used in the work came from the reuse of an old water tower . Doors and windows from demolition, were bought in Bahia. Local elements are present in carpets of natural fibers, the baskets and furniture of carpentry of Randolph, Dati and Ricardo Salem, and make contrast to the silver of the 19th century that Lara inherited the Portuguese family.

Fond of plants , the owner made sure to take advantage of native trees already in the ground and the bamboo grove planted by his mother 20 years ago, preserving in this way the house looks from those who walk along the beach. Residents just do not escape the visit of monkeys, which, curious, often a presence in front of the boxing great glass window of the double shower that is in the master bedroom.

While Gabu works in real estate development and landscaping projects, Lara is a partner in several projects in the region, the Hotel Fazenda Calah & Divino and the Beach Club Café de La Musique. In the gap between the business moments, she reveals that one of the most place enjoyed by the couple is the wooden deck at various levels, integrated with an infinity pool. “We love to lie on mats and pillows, watching the sunset, moonrise, the exuberant nature, and the sea … ” And who will scold them.”
